The Modern Day Pharisee and Tax Collector
“I don’t smoke or drink or chew
And I don’t go with those who do.
To my church I give my money
I don’t act bad or look funny.
I’m sure God’s glad to have me here
If He needs my help, I’ll make things clear.”
“Lord I’m sorry for the drinking and drugs
Forgive me for those guys I’ve mugged.
I’ve lied and cheated and stole and more
I’ve so many things to be sorry for.
Please forgive me and clean up my life
Help me to love – not be mean or have strife.”
“I’m sorry,” God said to the one who was good.
“I’ve never known you to do what you should.
You’ve never said ’sorry’ or asked Me come in.
I do not know you – you are lost in your sin.
But the liar who drank, did drugs and far more
I forgive and welcome on Heaven’s fine shore.”
